Picture Framing
Services
I provide a personal picture framing service designed to meet the requirements of busy, discerning, clients by visiting them at home. I bring a wide range of moulding and mount board samples, thus giving my clients the opportunity of selecting suitable framing solutions in the comfort of their own homes. Visits are always arranged at the client's convenience.
The following is a guide to the types of framing I offer and although the price various considerable, due to materials used and the time required for certain processes, the level of workmanship remains the same:
Standard
This is the simplest style of framing and therefore the most economic. It is well suited for displaying such things as certificates, standard size photographs or prints.
- Standard framing comprises the following:
- Single mounting with single opening;
- Moulding selected from my standard range;
- Moulding finished with single finish application, if appropriate (e.g. plain wood waxed);
- Frame is finished with backboard, taped and strung ready for hanging.
Price guide - an approximate A4 size piece of work (e.g. diploma) £35.00, this obviously depends greatly on the style of moulding.
Superior
This a more stylish way of framing artwork without costing the earth. It is ideally suited for pieces where visual impact is important or where client requires that little extra to give an ordinary picture the 'wow' factor.
Generally, more expensive moulding is chosen with double mounting. The piece is finished in the same way as for standard framing and strung ready for hanging.
Price guide - an approximate A4 size piece of work £45.00, this obviously depends greatly on the style of moulding.
Bespoke
Bespoke framing describes framing where time and care are the priorities in preparing, planning and completion or where individual finishes and styles are required. In bespoke framing great care is taken during the consultation phase to achieve a result that meets the client's vision.
The range of framing projects that fall into the bespoke framing category include:
- Framing fabric;
- Memorabilia;
- 3D items;
- Multiple images to be framed as one piece;
- Deep bevels around the viewing aperture;
- Slips and filets;
- Adding colour and/or special finishes to natural timber mouldings.
Because of the variables involved in bespoke framing it is not possible to give a price guide. However, a full quotation will be given following consultation.
If you have something unusual to frame or require something a bit different to meet a particular requirement, please give me a call - I will always try to find a solution.
Conservation
In conservation work I follow the guidelines set down by the Fine Arts Trade Guild. The aim is to give artwork the best care and protection over time. Through careful handling in the framing process, correct choices of materials used and appropriate methods of supporting the work in the frame, I endeavour to protect pieces from:
- Acidity;
- Heat;
- Insects;
- Grease;
- Light.
Usual candidates for this method of framing are ones that have clear monetary value, such as original paintings and limited edition prints. Similarly, pieces that have age, or sentimental worth, can be treated in this way.
Although artwork may look the same as other framed items, there are many differences:
- All tapes and adhesives are conservation standard (PH Neutral);
- Only gummed conservation papers and tapes are used in attaching artwork into its mount so that any attachment can be reversed without damaging the original piece;
- Non-adhesive styles for attachment of artwork are used where necessary or appropriate;
- All mount board and barrier boards conform to conservation standards;
- A choice of glazing is offered that takes account the lighting in the area of display;
- The glass panel, mounted artwork and barrier board are taped together for added protection;
- A final dust barrier is attached to the reverse of the frame;
- A label offering details of how the piece has been framed is attached for future reference or restoration.
It is important with conservation work to take simple precautions to extend the life of a piece. I can offer advice in this area.
As with bespoke framing it is difficult to offer a price guide. However, work is always priced according to the time taken and materials used in each project and a full quotation is given following consultation.
Please note that conservation work is not the same as restoration or repair. Any of this type or work needs to be carried out prior to framing by a specialist. I may be able to help with finding specialist assistance.
